Near Energy

In our Near Energy concept of carbon-neutral electricity for municipalities and cities, we respond to the changing opportunities in the energy market by offering electricity produced nearby for local use. Near Energy refers to electricity produced with wind or solar power that is competitive in price for the use of local operators. Transfer payments for energy distributed over the local smart grid are also cheaper.

A smart grid based on modern, decentralised energy production enables, for example, the sale of surplus energy to the national grid during a windy period. On the other hand, it allows you to buy energy from the national grid during a windless time.

Skarta’s Near Energy provides municipalities with affordable energy and a competitive edge for local companies. In addition, it increases local expertise and demand for municipalities, creates jobs in construction and maintenance, and creates a positive atmosphere and new vitality.

Why act now?

The EU wants to reduce emissions by at least 55% by 2030 compared to the levels of 1990.

Finland’s national energy and climate strategy aims to increase the share of renewable energy in end-users’ energy consumption to over 50% in the 2020s.

The objective of the current government is to reach carbon neutrality in 2035 and carbon negativity soon after. The government wants to accelerate emission reductions by, for example, increasing the share of wind power in Finland’s energy production.

Of the EUR 2.9 billion in aid granted by the EU to Finland, EUR 822 million is being channeled into the green transition, which in practice means environmentally friendly technologies such as wind and solar power and hydrogen.
